Reverse Garbage workshops are an opportunity to put the principles of sustainability – and specifically reuse – into practice through engaging, creative, interesting and enjoyable educational activities.

All workshops aim to teach about waste reduction through the reuse of materials and waste minimisation construction techniques (the majority of our workshops are tape and glue free!).

Students are given an opportunity to develop important problem solving skills in design and construction and are encouraged to learn co-operatively through sharing their skills and discoveries with each other.

Reverse Garbage workshops teach valuable skills and techniques that are just as important as choosing reuse materials for a sustainable future.  There are also many curricular links and we are happy to adapt our workshops to your needs or to develop thematic short and long form projects for your community group, childcare centre, school, festival or corporate need. Our workshops also cater to students with specific needs.

Please be aware it is a good idea to book in advance and that the April, June and September school holidays are particularly busy periods.  We are always developing new themes and extending existing ones.  You can also book us for workshops to take the burden off staff and parents when it comes to community celebrations or we can give you free advice regarding materials etc.

To make a booking or enquiry please contact Education Officer Nicole Barakat at education@reversegarbage.org.au or ring on 02 9569 3132.

Testimonials from Mid-waste workshops in Taree, Gloucester and Tuncurry, July 2012

We had a great time at the workshop. So interesting working with different materials and joining them without glue or sticky tape.  Will definitely start collecting more bits and pieces around the house for our crafting. Thank you for coming.” – Nadia and Eli (4 years), workshop participants.

Excellent class. Fun and informative.  My son loved making his reuse robot and you have inspired me to create some reuse art myself using plastic bags and your wonderful string making technique. Many thanks!” – Workshop participant parent.

Thanks Nicole. You had a great selection of materials and were positive with the creations made by a diverse group of participants.”

  1. Our childcare centre is interested in your sustainability, educational workshops. However we do not do excursions outside of the centre. Is there any way that these workshops could take place at the centre itself. Thanks.

    Kind Regards
    Gina

    • Hi Vanessa, Unfortunately no workshops this week. We will be organising school holiday workshops for the next school holidays and will post information on our Workshops page.

  2. To workshops/education co-ordinator,

I’m a teacher at Auburn Girls High School and looking at waste management as an issue in Geography. Would it be possible to have information regarding your workshops. In particular availability from the 6th of May and costs for school groups.
