Win a class in/excursion this Christmas

We are challenging OOSH/vacation care and early childhood centres to choose to reuse this Christmas. To enter, your group must make a reuse Christmas tree for the classroom. Size does not matter, make it as big or as small as you want. The key criteria is that everything must be made out of reuse resources, from the tree to the decorations.

Reuse resources include items you can find in the recycling bin, around the house, or even in your lunchbox. The idea is to divert resources from going into landfill and give them a new life so you simply cannot use anything new!

This will be a great chance to talk about how much waste we make and where it goes. It will also allow students to get creative and think about how they can reuse old disregarded items. You could even visit Reverse Garbage to get inspired by our warehouse full of reuse resources that have been saved from going into landfill.

Here are a few ideas to get you started:

  • Collect bottle caps to use as baubles. They are also a great way to add pops of colour.
  • Raid the recycling bin for boxes or anything that you can repurpose into a Christmas tree or decorations. A cereal box could be used to cut out shapes for decorations.
  • Have some old CDs lying around the house? They could make great baubles.
