All our workshops are very practical and hands-on. We use inquiry-based learning pedagogy to build skills and knowledge around sustainability, waste management and reuse materials to support children’s learning and play.
Our workshop facilitators are experienced adult educators with extensive knowledge around how to work with reuse materials in line with the NSW Syllabus, the Early Years Learning Framework For Australia and the National Quality Standard.
We can put together a program to suit your times and requirements, from one hour to a full day. Email us for more details education@reversegarbage.org.au or call Brett, our Education & PD Manager, on 02 9569 3132.

Loose Parts Play PD and Implementation
Learn about incorporating loose parts into your centre with a loose parts incursion and professional development session in one. Reverse Garbage will set up an exciting selection of open-ended materials for your children to explore and enjoy. The incursion is complemented with a 1-hour professional development session to extend your team’s capacity to enrich sustainability learning in early childhood settings based on a reflective observation approach.
Pop-up shop
If you can’t come to us, let us bring the warehouse to you! For conferences and large organisations we can put together a pop-up shop, full of our weird and wonderful materials for purchase. This option is only available for large groups of 50 or over.
Talk and tour for early childhood vocational education students
Introduce your Early Childhood vocational education students to the innovative and inexpensive possibilities of sustainable reuse materials.
In this 1-hour session, students will be introduced to reuse materials and given tips and tricks for working with items that were originally designed for different purposes. They are given a budget, a theme*, and set free in the Reverse Garbage warehouse with plenty of time to discover and collect unique and eclectic reuse materials. Finds are brought back to our Makerspace and students are asked to create an ‘invitation to play’ around their theme. The session also includes collaborative discussion with a reuse expert on how best to work with reuse materials in the context of the Early Childhood setting.
*Themes include sand play, water play, light table, early literacy and numeracy, transport, dinosaurs, under the sea, loose parts materials, home corner, collage materials and more….
