Reuse Tinkering Lab 16 – 20 January 2017
For Tinkerers aged 10 years and above.
Not sure what to do with your inquisitive children during the school break? Send them along to one of our Reuse Tinkering Lab workshops.
Each day will begin with basic skills for working with the materials, including safe use of tools, construction techniques and choosing reuse materials. We will work through a design process to create the day’s fabulous object. The afternoons will be spent on finishing processes to create both beautiful and functional items.
We will be recording and documenting the process as we go with the aim of creating a short film so please bring along your mobile device. We will also be holding an exhibition of the week’s objects for parents and friends on Saturday 21st Jan at 11am where we will show the films we have created along the way.
Our Workshop facilitators Rachel & Phil are Reverse Garbage experts as well as experienced science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics (STEAM) teachers. They are both committed reuse practitioners with a passion for teaching skills and making interesting, useful and fabulous objects.

WHo are we?
Reverse Garbage was established in 1974 by a group of teachers who were determined to help the environment by diverting industrial discards from landfill and by reusing materials in their classrooms.
Reverse Garbage is committed to diverting resources from landfill – each year we accept approximately 35,000 cubic metres or 100 football fields of items which may otherwise end up in the bin.
40 years on Reverse Garbage is now an internationally recognised, award-winning environmental co-operative committed to promoting sustainability through the reuse of resources available at its Marrickville warehouse, as well as providing support to other community, creative and educational organisations. This support is often in the form of donated materials, service-in-kind or small financial sponsorship.
Our Reverse Garbage Warehouse is open to the public 7 days a week (click here for our location and operating hours) to purchase a variety of reusable materials and resources at considerably discounted prices. We also offer a range of tours and educational workshops for students tailored to different ages, abilities and needs.
For more than 40 years Reverse Garbage has been operated and managed by dedicated staff and volunteers. If you are interested in contributing your time or joining our staff team, we are interested in hearing from you! Please have a look at About Us.
We look forward to welcoming you at our Reverse Garbage Marrickville site!
