Reverse Garbage was started by educators for educators almost 50 years ago with the aim of reducing landfill through creative reuse. We have a professional development option to suit your needs and budget.
We believe passionately that real change will come through the education of children who will make living more sustainably a part of their lives. A primary aged child now will be making important decisions regarding sustainability in the workplace in just 10 years time.
Our range of Professional Development programs aim to give educators the knowledge, skills, tips, tricks and confidence they need to make sustainable thinking and creative approaches part of their everyday practice so that they can model and share a more sustainable practices.

Current Offerings: Choose from our current range of program below (these can also be adapted to suit). All our programs are 90 minutes in duration and can be tailored to suit a specific stage as needed. They are all hands on, and conversation based — so be sure to bring your thinking caps and be ready to share your thoughts!
Creative Reuse: Why to and How To
This program explores the importance of sustainable practices in our classroom. There is an opportunity for reflection on what may already be in place at your school to encourage creative reuse, and time to plan what habits and systems can be put in place to further extend this practice. We will discuss best practices, how to source materials, and the benefits for our environment and your students when implementing creative reuse. Finally, the session will include a mini workshop for educators to get in the mind of their students and explore some of the materials that Reverse Garbage brings into the classroom.
Loose Parts Play: Why to and How to
We are massive advocates for loose parts play, not only for its focus on re-using discards of all sizes, but for the variety of benefits for students as well. This session explores some of the history of loose parts play, the logistics of implementing the practice at your space, and the benefits students gain by engaging in loose parts play. This program makes time for educators to explore the materials themselves and plan the process of what implementation at their school would be like. We strongly encourage this program be paired with loose parts play sessions for students at the school that are overseen by the teachers, so they can better understand the practice through observation.
