Our school holiday programs are all about creativity, reuse and hands-on discovery. Led by our experienced education team, each session invites kids to explore sustainable making through fun, practical projects using Reverse Garbage materials from our warehouse. From crafting unique creations to learning new skills, children get the chance to experiment, express themselves and see what’s possible with a little imagination. It’s a great way to stay engaged, inspired and connected to community during the holidays.

Scripts and Stages Course for Kids. Write, design, and perform a short play addressing environmental issues.
Art is a powerful means of exploring issues and making change. This three-day workshop invites 8-12-year-olds to respond to current environmental issues through performance arts.Students will spend the first day getting to know each other and exploring key environmental issues such as habitat loss, microplastics, landfill capacity, and extreme weather. In a team of six, the students will pick an idea to focus on and will work together to write a performance based on the question, “What would the world say about your issue?”
Each team will have a dedicated educator to support them through the writing and making process. Using all reclaimed materials from the warehouse, students will make the props and costumes as a team. We will invite all families from the workshop to watch the students’ performance at pick-up time on the third day.

Wild Marrickville Field Guide Course for Kids. Students will collaborate to create a field guide of Marrickville.
For budding ecologists and urbanists, the program explores the natural and built environment around the Marrickville warehouse. We will be taking short walks around the neighborhood to observe its features and how they shape the experience of community members. We will take walks through the park to see how it functions as a habitat for flora and fauna, as well as a part of our daily lives.
During these walks, students will take notes about the things they feel and notice, and eventually select a “specimen” that they want to include in the field guide. Once they have selected a “specimen, ” students will write a guide entry, produce a short creative piece of writing, and make an illustration. The week will also include a paper-making project, which students will use as the jacket for their own field journal. Finally, at the end of the week, students will learn how to bind the pages of the book together.
